Harris County Water Control and Improvement District No. 96 (WCID 96) is responsible for providing water and sewage services to businesses and residents within its boundaries. This means that your “water bill” includes more than just the cost of water – it includes charges for sewage services and garbage collection too. WCID 96 establishes and governs water and sewer rates, penalties for bill delinquency, inspection fees, and other costs and charges through the Rate Order.
Water conservation is an essential practice which the WCID 96 encourages. The more water you use each month, the more expensive the cost of water becomes. For example, a residence which uses only 10,000 gallons of water per month will be charged less than a residence which uses 20,000 gallons. Similarly, a residence which requires only 10,000 gallons of sewage per month will be charged less than a residence which requires 20,000 gallons of sewage. As these rates are subject to change, please consult the current Rate Order for exact prices.
If a Customer fails to pay a water bill within 24 days after the date of the bill, the water bill becomes delinquent. Once a bill is delinquent, a charge of fifteen percent (15%) of the amount of the water bill is added. WCID 96 has the right to terminate water and sanitary service at any time after a bill becomes delinquent. Payment of the unpaid account, including penalties and all other charges, plus any required deposit, shall be paid prior to restoration of water service. Further details regarding delinquency and penalties are included in the current Rate Order.
WCID 96 may also contract with an independent contractor to provide for solid waste and trash collection within the District. The fee for this service will be established by contract and included in the monthly water bill.
Your water bill may also include a voluntary $3.00 donation to the fire department. The monthly donations reflect the overwhelming generosity on the part of our community, and these donations play an integral role in supporting the fire department.
